Wind & Storm Damged Roofs - Asphalt Shingles, Felt, Sheathing

You may think that wind has not damaged your roof if you don't see any shingles blown off. Think again. Wind can cause a multitude of damages to your roof that will decrease its life and leave it susceptible to leaks and further damage. And you may never even know it!
When the wind blows, it creates an enormous amount of pressure on the shingles. Damages don't occur from the wind itself getting underneath the shingles, but rather from the vacuum-like forces created on the surface. Have you ever watched video of a tornado approaching a house, and suddenly the entire roof lifts off the house as though it were a lid? It is the same uplift force that can cause damage to your shingles, albeit on a smaller scale.
The first thing wind uplift will do to your shingles is break the adhesive seal. Once that seal is broken, the shingles become susceptible to tearing off completely. These loose shingles will often flap up and down during the next thunderstorm, allowing rainwater to get underneath, where it isn't supposed to be! Wind driven rain can then cause leaks and damage the interior of your home. Though many insurance companies and their engineering firm partners claim a broken seal is not damage, there is no doubt that it is damage. The shingles must be sealed down in order to do their job correctly. Every manufacturers specification emphasizes the fact that the shingles must be sealed. At a bare minimum, these shingles must be hand-sealed back down. This may not be possible with older shingles, depending on their condition.
In some cases when the seal of the shingle is broken, it will cause de-lamination of that shingle, or the one it was sealed to. In this case, the shingle cannot simply be resealed. Both shingles must be replaced. It is very possible an entire roof could need replacement because of de-lamination, even though all of the shingles are still in place.
Another common form of damage caused by wind that cannot be seen from the ground is creasing. This happens when the seal has been broken, and with the shingle flapping in the wind, it folds it back far enough to form a crease. This will usually happen before the shingle tears off completely, which is the most obvious form of damage, and readily visible from the ground.

Hail Damaged Homes - Vinyl Siding, Aluminum Siding, Metal Siding, Siding
Hail is always a dreaded word. It can damage cars, crops, homes, and anything else that it touches. The two places that most home owners worry about hail except in extreme cases is the roof and siding.
A nasty hail storm can shorten the life of shingles by a decade or more. With siding, the damage can need even more immediate attention than most roofs. Since insurance claims are the next step after spotting hail damage, it is best if you can identify it before calling out the adjusters. This will give you the ability to challenge the insurance company if they try to deny your claim or let Dynasty Remodeling take the worry out of filing a claim. We work with insurance companies on a daily basis, and are more than happy to handle your claim questions and concerns.
Look for cracks, dents, and holes in siding.
Because there are many types of siding, the effects of hail damage will be seen in different ways. On vinyl siding, hail will not usually leave dents. That is the good news. A strong hail storm can hammer at the vinyl. If the siding is several years old, it will have lost some of its pliability.
When the hail strikes, it can crack the siding. While this is rare on new siding, it becomes more likely on older siding. You should be able to see the cracks. They are generally nearer to the bottom than the top of the wall because the eave of the house offers some protection higher up. If the strikes are severe enough, it will knock holes in the siding.

Flooded or Wet Basements - Clean Up, Dry Outs, Flooding
Homeowners prevent basement flooding in different ways. Mostly, it depends on the actual cause of the problem. But, you can't really afford to sit back and relax while your basement is under water - your safety, property value, and home construction integrity are at stake here. That's why it's no surprise that people are really focused on applying the best measures to prevent basement flooding.
During heavy snowfall or rainy weathers, homeowners always prepare themselves for the possibility of basement flooding. Well, almost all houses with basements experience this type of basement problem. This is a big issue because floods or water leaks in your basement could potentially weaken its foundation system and cause irreversible damage if not prevented at the beginning.
Keep in mind that basements are not ideal spaces for equipment storage or as living spaces - unless you live in modern-designed homes that already took this into consideration. Plus, your insurance plan might not even cover these equipments that are destroyed during the basement flood. The more reason you should be careful of what you place down there.
Prolonged exposure of your basement to extra moisture could give rise to several other problems. These are molds, fungus, and mushrooms. These are not only unpleasant to look at, but these can also cause plenty of health hazards. Molds are known to cause airborne health problems, such as headaches, compromised immune system, dry and hacking cough, and skin irritation. That's why it's very important that you should find solutions to stop moisture problems from happening because of the potential health risks a wet basement may carry.
If you're planning to resell your house, you might not get the projected property value that you want. Homes that are repeatedly plagued by basement problems wouldn't really be on the top of the list of potential buyers. It would be a big mistake on their part because they'll be facing more expenses for the restoration or maintenance services compared to the original cost of the house.
If you can't really diagnose the problem, and water continues to wet or even flood your basement, it's time that you call in Dynasty Remodeling, we can implement measures to prevent the wet or flooding basement from ruining your home.

To Whom It May Concern,
This is the owner of Dynasty Remodeling Ryan A. Wilcox. I just wanted to write a little bit about homeowner/homeowners and insurance claims. Kind of a what to do and what not to do scenario.
So a storm has come through and done some damage to your home. It might have been hail or wind, but your roof or siding or both are damaged. What do you do? You call your agent! The biggest mistake I hear from a homeowner is " well we don't know if we want to file a claim or not "... Why? I don't really know why, and they don't really know why either. But, I guess homeowners have been scared into believing that there premiums will go up. Which they might if you file claims often, but they're not going to go up for one claim every five, ten or fifteen years. And if your premiums do go up and you're not happy with the price of them going up, there are plenty of insurance companies out there and it's really easy to switch in today's market. You might be suprised, you could save some money!
So, the agent has been called and he or she tells you to get some estimates, sometimes 3 or less...now why would they tell you that? Isn't that what you pay insurance premiums for? So you're calling around talking to contractors and setting up estimates around there schedule maybe even taking time off of work or lunch breaks.
Or better yet, the insurance company suggests a few, or tells you who they use, and want you to call them. Which is not allowed in the industry! Your insurance company is not allowed (legally) to direct your decision towards one company/contractor or the next. They cannot tell you who to hire! Period...
Because ultimatly it is your decision...That is why you pay insurance premiums.
The insurance company works for you, not the other way around.
We handle insurance claims all year round (Findlay OH, Oak Harbor OH, Lake Township OH, to name a few) and the saddest thing for my company and I to hear is when a homeowner gets a check from an insurance company and it's not enough, they've signed off on it, or can't even get the adjuster on the phone/scheduled to get the damage looked at.
Dynasty Remodeling can handle your insurance claim! We talk directly with the insurance company, adjuster, and agent to get things taken care of quickly and properly. Making sure you know how the process works and you get what you should from the damage you've had to your property and home.
I personally, Ryan A. Wilcox, owner of Dynasty Remodeling meet with every adjuster, to make sure no damage is missed. I relay all information to the homeowner. So you don't have to miss work or schedule appointments. Let Dynasty Remodeling take care of the claim for you, we're sure you'll tell your neighbors!
